Posed by a prof here at the seminary that at the moment of crucifixion – “From noon on, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.” (Matt. 27:45) – creation itself was being reversed (Cf. Gen. 1:3 – “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.”) [among many other things].
As believers, I think we tend to shy away from the scene on the cross because of its gruesome content – but I challenge you to look deeper into the “context clues” (You remember being in 2nd grade, right?) that we find in those hard places in Scripture.
